DAVID BOWIE:
2025-2029

2024 ← 2025

David Bowie:

(Parlophone DBYAPD 1975/5021732489357; Germany 03/2025)

Format: LP

Release notes: picture disc, die-cut cover, insert, poster, limited edition

Tracks: see original issues

Collector's notes: The 50th anniversary picture disc of the album. Very good sound and pressing for a picture disc.

David Bowie:

Young Americans

(Parlophone DBYA 50/5021732489364; Germany 03/2025)

Format: LP

Release notes: half-speed master, OBI, insert, limited edition

Tracks: see original issues

Collector's notes: And here's the usual half-speed master issue...
Note that the inserts of this release and the picture disc version look identical at first sight, but bear different catalogue numbers.

David Bowie:

Ready, Set, Go! [Live, Riverside Studios '03]

(Iso/Parlophone 5021732531179; Germany 04/2025)

Format: LP

Release notes: cover sticker, 2 OIS, poster, limited edition

Tracks: New Killer Star / Pablo Picasso / Never Get Old / The Loneliest Guy // Looking for Water / She'll Drive the Big Car / Days / Fall Dog Bombs the Moon // Try Some, Buy Some / Reality / Bring Me the Disco King // Hallo Spaceboy / Cactus / Afraid

Other notes: live, Hammersmith Riverside Theatre, London, 08/09/2003

Collector's notes: A nice Record Store Day release. With the exception of the last three tracks, these recordings had previously been available on the DVD from the Reality tour edition CD/DVD set, and all of them had unofficially been available on the A Reality Tour bootleg CD. However, it's great to have the show in perfect quality on vinyl.

David Bowie:

So Long 60s, Hello 70s - Rarities and More

(Casino Records (LOXG HELLO A/B); Italy? 08/2025)

Format: LP

Release notes: bootleg, marbled blue vinyl, insert, limited edition 97/200

Tracks: C'est la Vie* / Goodbye Threepenny Joe** / Hole in the Ground*** / So Long 60s° / Life on Mars?°° / How Lucky You Are°°° / Star (a.k.a. Stars)+ / Star (a.k.a. Stars)++ // Bombers+++ / All the Young Dudes# / Funky Music (Is a Part of Me)## / Fascination### / Fame%

Other notes: *demo, take 3, Advision Studios, London, 09/1967; **demo, home recording, Manchester Street, London, probably early 1968; ***demo feat. George Underwood, home recording, Clareville Grove, London, mid to late 1969; °San Francisco hotel recording, The Holiday Inn, 11 or 12/02/1971; °°performed by Peter Noone feat. Bowie, demo, Kingsway Studios, London, 26/03/1971; performed by Micky King's All Stars feat. Bowie, demo, Trident Studios, London, 23/04/1971; +demo, Radio Luxembourg Studios, London, c. 05/1971; ++performed by Chameleon, demo, c. 06/1971; +++acetate demo, Radio Luxembourg Studios, London, 06/1971; #Mott the Hoople version with Bowie's guide vocal on verses and chorus; ##performed by Luther, from the album Luther (1976) (original version of Fascination); ###alternative mix; %alternative mix ("flute mix")

Collector's notes: This isn't a very exciting compilation bootleg. Many of the tracks are identical to the versions that had recently been released on official Bowie records, and several others had previously been available on other Bowie bootlegs. And do we really need Luther Vandross's Funky Music on a Bowie record? The really elusive item is the alternative take of C'est la Vie. It had long been known that more than the two versions previously released on bootlegs existed, but this was the first time one of them turned up on a bootleg. Also of interest are the recordings by Peter Noone, Micky King and Chameleon, although these are, strictly speaking, not Bowie tracks.
There are another 200 copies in marbled white vinyl.

David Bowie & Mick Jagger:

Dancing in the Street

(Parlophone DBMJDITS40/5021732659125; Germany 08/2025)

Format: 12"

Release notes: white vinyl, PS, cover sticker, limited edition

Tracks: Dancing in the Street (Clearmountain mix) / Dancing in the Street (instrumental) / Dancing in the Street (Steve Thompson mix) // Dancing in the Street (edit) / Dancing in the Street (dub mix)

Collector's notes: A 40th anniversary issue that collects all the mixes from the original 7" and 12" singles - except for the Clearmountain mix these re-mixes still sounded as superfluous as they had done forty years earlier.
From a strictly formal point of view this isn't a re-release because the original (commercial) 12" didn't include the Clearmountain and instrumental mixes, which were only on the 7".

David Bowie:

I Can't Give Everything Away [2002-2016]

Collector's notes: The sixth (and probably final) box set. In fact, it was a bit of a disappointment. The most interesting aspect is the inclusion of the Montreux Jazz Festival set, but the fact that an easily available bootleg in comparable sound quality had been released less than two years ago reduced the excitement. There is some interesting stuff on Re:Call 6, especially the live recordings that had previously been available only as download or streaming tracks.
Notes on the individual albums:

Heathen: a replica of the original EU issue.
Comes with a printed inner sleeve.

Montreux Jazz Festival: as regards the audio, this recording is basically identical to the bootleg LPs released the previous year, except for the fact that the songs are distributed over the sides in a different way. It was nice to have this recording on an official album, but after all, it wasn't better or worse than the bootlegs.
Comes with four printed inner sleeves.

Reality: the album is basically a replica of the EU issue from 2014, that is, it comes in a single sleeve with a booklet.

A Reality Tour: this album is not identical to the original US vinyl issue. It contains the same tracks, but in a corrected running order. Like the original vinyl issue it is on blue vinyl, but unlike that release it doesn't come in a box (which would be impossible, anyway), and it includes three additional printed inner sleeves.

The Next Day: follows the original EU issue. The album comes in a gatefold cover with two printed inner sleeves.

The Next Day Extra EP: a replica of the 2022 vinyl issue. Has a printed inner sleeve. As in the case of the original vinyl version, I count this record as an album.

Blackstar: Basically identical to the 2016 black vinyl issue. Comes in a die-cut cover and includes a booklet.

No Plan EP: A replica of the original black vinyl version. As the original, it is one-sided, runs at a speed of 33 1/3 rpm, and has an etching on the blank side. I don't show the blank side again here because it's difficult to photograph and absolutely identical to the previous version. So see there for the design.

Re:Call 6: some of the tracks are here available in a physical format for the first time. Comes with four printed inner sleeves.
